Thailand’s Wat Rong Khun | The White Temple

Isn’t it amazing—the creativity and the tenacity people have to build awesome structures? Thailand’s Wat Rong Khun, aka The White Temple, opened in 1997 and is expected to be completed in 2070. That’s 73 years in the building! You know that the creators are thinking beyond themselves. As Mary Baker Eddy said, “Whatever holds a human thought in line with unselfed love, receives directly the divine power.” 

Privately owned, The White Temple is a contemporary, unconventional art exhibit designed like a Buddhist temple in Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. Chalermchai Kositpipat, designed, constructed, and opened it to visitors. At first glance, it looks beautiful, fantastical.  Covered in a shiny white finish and sparkling mirrors, the temple is magical and mysterious. Depicting scenes from Heaven and Earth, the setting is full of details. When you get closer, it has morbid artworks, including aliens, predators, dead hands reaching up, and mythical creatures. The toilets are gold.
